Don't forget, no news show this Sunday as I will be at RavenCon.

Despite getting to meet the maintainer of The Jargon File, no new hacker word this week due to the length of the feature.

I received a voice mail but I will hold that until next time because the feature audio is around fifty minutes long.

The feature is some panel audio I recorded at Penguicon this past weekend. I was joined on the panel by noted science fiction author, Vernor Vinge, and the topic was secure computing environments.

And here is the paper that Jon mentioned on the problem with multi-threading. Here's also a link to a clearer explanation of the dining philosophers problem.

The feature is a Hacking 101 segment on scripting languages.

In the intro, a moment of silence to commemorate the passing of role playing game luminary, E. Gary Gygax and a few remembrances of how his co-invention, D&D, affected my geek life.

The feature this week is the audio I recorder of the IP discussion panel I moderated a few weeks back at Farpoint 2008. Panelists were Steve Kramer of Secret Frequency, Steve Wilson the director of Farpoint's podcasting track (hence the boss reference) and of Prometheus Radio Theatre, and Brand Gamblin the writer, voice and puppeteer for Calls for Cthulhu.

No Show Tonight

I did record a special apology, if you are interested. The net-net is that the live audio I recorded at CopyNight is as bad as, if not worse than, the audio I recorded last March. I received a lot of negative feedback for the quality of that particular episode. I am making the hard call, especially since I was too busy to have a plan B for the episode, of skipping tonight.

The good news is most of my looming deadlines will pass at the end of this week so I should be able to get back on top of the content and interview planning.

In the intro, a quick review of the Ben 10 video game for the Nintendo Wii console. I have been playing it steadily for the past couple of days with my younger son.

This week's security alerts are a mass SQL injection attack and a master boot record based stealth rootkit.

In this week's news, the Wikia search engine launches an alpha to a luke warm reception, Pandora is shutting down its UK streams, Felten weighs in on the Facebook/Scoble kerfuffle along with some EU-based commentary around the legal issues, and Schneier urges us to run our wireless networks open.

Following up this week, Facebook and Google join DataPortability.org and Amazon nabs Sony BMG for its MP3 store.
